SCONE Vision and Mission

The vision of the Suncoast Organization of Nurse Executives is to foster a strong, cohesive network of aspiring and Nursing Leaders from provider settings and educational institutions within the counties of Sarasota, Manatee, DeSoto and Charlotte.

Our mission is to promote health care to the surrounding communities and to advance development of effective nursing service administration in health care/ nursing education facilities by:

  • Promoting communications among Southwest Florida nursing leadership.
  • Providing and supporting mechanisms for the exchange of health-related information and materials relative to nursing service administrators and other health care leaders.
  • Promoting communication and effective working relationships between SCONE and other Southwest Florida healthcare and nursing leaders.
  • Promoting and supporting activities, which will create interest in job opportunities and careers in nursing in our four county area.
  • Promoting and maintaining an effective relationship with communities served by membership.
  • Promoting educational programs and activities to strengthen nursing service administration.
  • Collaborate with FONE to foster a shared mission, vision and strategic initiatives.

SCONE News


  • SCF announces the first class for BSN students, which will begin in January 2010.
  • Congratulations to the following SCONE members who were recipients of the Great 100 Nurses award: Bonnie Hesselberg won in the category of Education and PJ Floyd won for Administration.
  • Hats off to Blake Medical Center PACU nurses! 100% of the full-time nurses are now nationally certified. They were honored for their achievement in August by the CEO and CNO, with a proclamation declaring the month of August as PACU Nurses Month at Blake Medical Center.
  • We started a scholarship fund at the June meeting.
  • We will be starting a fund-raising campaign by selling Nurses Note Cards at our next meeting.  The cards were designed by children in Englewood.  Anyone who is interested in purchasing these cards can contact Lane Harrington at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.   • We are developing a member needs assessment to determine the educational needs of our members for meeting topics.  Please fill out your surveys so we can better meet the needs of our members.

Report from the State of Florida – Legislative issues

Overview of Acceleration of schools and the role of Board of Nursing given.

 

Current bill omitted the oversight of the Board over nursing programs.

Nursing Education Capacity Summit

Overview given including capacity in which most nurses in Florida work.

 

Other topics include how we can increase the number of educators available in the state.

At next meeting be prepared to give input on how you would describe the “ideal” nurse.

Suggested questions.

  1. What do you want to get out of the SCONE meetings?
  2. Asking for feedback on programs for meeting topics and would membership be willing to pay for meal, etc.

Starting balance $859.00 in account plus $144 from 50/50 raffle with total of $1003.00.

 

36 members currently.  6 new members and one renewed at tonight’s meeting.

Need three members for Nominating Committee for next election.

Call for nominations for new Board.

Discussion about the possibility of a scholarship and what it would be used for.
